Planet Word is an immersive language experience located at the historic Franklin School in Washington, DC. Planet Word is the world’s first voice-activated museum, featuring immersive galleries and exhibits for visitors of all ages.
After two successful Juneteenth events, the museum asked me to help brand their 3rd Annual Juneteenth Literary Jubilee & Black Author Book Fest. Dubbed “Words, Rhythm and Flow,” this year’s theme includes “local authors whose work is rooted in music, storytelling, and poetic rhythm, and award-winning poet and hip-hop educator Tony Keith, Jr. emcees and discuss his latest book, Knucklehead. Plus enjoy arts and crafts, live music, and delicious bites!”
For the logo, I mixed Planet Word’s established icons and flourishes with African-themed book spines and color palette. My favorite part? Using exclamation marks in place of drum sticks! Additionally, I mixed many of Planet Word’s patterns to create a respectful homage to African culture while remaining true to the museum’s brand.
My work for the museum once again builds on the lovely design, patterns, icons and brand guidelines developed by Eighty2degrees Design Studio.
